What this site is
PVLandslide.com is an independent information hub about landslides on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in California. It centers on the Greater Portuguese Bend Landslide Complex in Rancho Palos Verdes and also covers the peninsula's other, separate slides. It brings together official updates, land movement survey data, public meeting outcomes, reports and news coverage, and links each item to its source.
It is written for affected homeowners and residents, prospective buyers and their real estate agents, journalists, and anyone else following the landslide.
Independence
PVLandslide.com is not affiliated with the City of Rancho Palos Verdes, Los Angeles County, the State of California, FEMA, or any utility or abatement district, and it does not speak for any of them. The site aims to be neutral: it reports what official agencies, news outlets and other named sources have said, says who said it, and does not take sides in disputes, lawsuits or elections.
PVLandslide.com is run independently and privately. It carries no advertising.

How items are sourced and checked
These are the standards the site works to. If you find an item that falls short of them, such as a missing source or date, please let us know.
- Official sources come first. Figures and statuses come from the agencies responsible for them whenever possible: the City of Rancho Palos Verdes (land movement updates, survey reports, staff reports and City Council actions), FEMA and Cal OES, Los Angeles County, and the utilities (SCE, SoCalGas and Cal Water). For lawsuits, the site uses court filings or City Council minutes where they are publicly available, and says whose claims it is reporting.
- News reports from local and regional outlets are used for events, context and quotes. When a claim rests on a single news report, the page names that outlet, and official records are checked wherever they exist.
- Items should link to their sources, naming the agency or outlet and giving the date where the source has one. Figures that change over time should carry the date they were reported, written as "as of" a date.
- Numbers are given the way the source gave them. The site does not compute rates or totals that an agency hasn't published. For example, it does not convert the feet-per-month figures in the City's GPS survey reports into inches-per-week rates.
- When sources disagree, the site says so and shows both, or leaves the claim out until it can be confirmed. A missing fact is better than a wrong one.
- Quotations are exact. Paraphrases are not put in quotation marks.
How updates are prepared
Drafts are prepared with the help of an AI assistant. It checks the official pages the site relies on and recent news coverage, and drafts proposed edits with links to the sources they came from. The site's owner reviews each draft before anything is published. Nothing is published automatically.

A tip is checked against official records or another reliable source before anything based on it is published. We don't publish a sender's name, email address or photos without their permission.
Corrections
If you see something that is wrong, out of date or missing, email contact@pvlandslide.com. Please name the page, describe the problem and, if you can, include a link to a source.
Each report is checked against the source. When an error is confirmed, the page is fixed. If the fix changes a fact readers may have relied on, such as a number, date, name or status, a dated note is added where the error was, in the form "Correction (date): …". Figures that change over time, such as new survey data, are updated in place and carry an "as of" date or a dated "Update:" note instead.

This section explains what information the site collects about visitors and what is done with it. The site has no signup forms or accounts; the only information it receives is anonymous visitor statistics, server logs, and any email you choose to send.
Visitor statistics (Google Analytics)
The site uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service from Google, to count visits and see which pages are read. By default, Google Analytics sets two first-party cookies in your browser, _ga and a second one whose name starts with _ga_. They tell visitors and visits apart, and by default they last up to two years. Google Analytics collects information about your device and browser and about the pages you view and your activity on them. Google says it uses IP addresses to protect its service and to give site owners a sense of where in the world visitors come from, and that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We use these statistics to see which pages and information readers use most.
You can block or delete these cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The site works the same without them. Emails you send
If you email contact@pvlandslide.com, your message and address are kept in the site's inbox. They are used only to read and answer your message and to check what you sent. Your name and email address are not published without your permission.
Server logs
Like most websites, the web host that serves this site automatically records basic technical information about each request, such as the IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. We use these logs only for troubleshooting and security.
What the site does not do
The site shows no ads and has no linked Google Ads account. We don't sell visitor information. Google's use of Analytics data is described in the Google pages linked above. The site has no user accounts and sets no cookies of its own. Links to other websites, such as City pages and news outlets, lead to sites that have their own privacy policies.
